We’re thrilled to announce In Bloom, a new exhibition at Seed130 hosted by National Trust in collaboration with Transport for London, celebrating the people who transform spaces across London’s transport network through gardening. This powerful collaboration shines a light on the beauty, resilience, and community spirit nurtured in London’s station gardens, and the green spaces that thrive in some of the city’s most unexpected places.

The exhibition showcases the winners of TfL’s 2024 In Bloom competition, alongside a curated selection of historic photographs from the London Transport Museum archive, reflecting on the competition’s rich legacy and the transformation of London’s urban landscape.

At the heart of the exhibition is new work by British-Congolese photographer Bernice Mulenga (they/them). Known for their intimate and community-rooted practice, Bernice captures the people and stories behind the gardens with sensitivity and depth. Their photography is accompanied by recorded interviews and a short film, offering a moving portrait of how gardening has helped individuals process grief, find calm, build community, and reconnect with nature in meaningful ways.

Featured gardens and stations include: Julia (Hainault), Marisa (formerly of Edgware Road), Ray and Azaz (South Tottenham), Hitendra (Wembley Park), Jack and the Northwick Park community gardeners - Jo, Eleri and Sarah as well as the team at Upminster Maintenance Depot: Peter, Bradley, Gary, Jonathan, David, Ronan, Terry, Christopher, Glenn, Stephan and Samuel and Anthony of Morden station.

Visitors will also experience a temporary pop-up garden created within the gallery space. Drawing on the experience of transforming station sites into vibrant green sanctuaries, this living installation offers a sensory connection to the project’s roots. It serves as both a striking visual centrepiece and a symbol of what’s possible when urban space is reimagined with care and community in mind. At the close of the exhibition, the garden will be dismantled and redistributed to community gardens and partner spaces across London.
